Beige Vintage-Pattern Round Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Taftan Series

Three meters across and perfectly round: at 300 × 300 cm (9'10" × 9'10") this Taftan-series rug is large enough to seat a whole group inside its circle, and the round form is the point of it.

01The Tencel on the surface

It is made in Kütahya, in Tencel® over cotton, in beige, with a vintage pattern faded almost to the level of the ground. Four diameters are woven, starting at 160 cm (5'3"). A circle has no corners to align to a wall, so it stops obeying the architecture and starts organizing the furniture instead — which is why a round rug looks deliberate in a square room and lost in a narrow one.

02The origin of the pattern

The pattern on this one is barely there: pale figures that surface for a moment and sink back, closer to a watermark than to a drawn motif. Beige keeps the whole thing bright, and because nothing on the surface demands attention the rug makes a room read larger than it is.

03From ground to pile

Under a wide sofa group or in a tall entrance hall it does the job it was drawn for. Tencel® and cotton give it a silky hand and a flat, quiet lie. Loom-weaving is the method: the frame goes down by machine and the finish is put on by people, the arrangement Kütahya has settled into over the last generation. There is no wool in it.

04A question of size

A word of warning about the shape rather than the rug: round rugs are unforgiving about placement, and one that is a size too small for the seating around it will look like a mistake from every doorway.

05What Wool does

Measure the circle before you choose the diameter. Loom-woven in Kütahya, Türkiye, machine body and hand finish. Tencel® and cotton; wool-free. A faded vintage pattern that barely separates from the beige ground. Silky under the hand, and low enough to sit flat without curling. Round, in four diameters: 160, 180, 200 and 300 cm. Best chosen a size larger than you first think, so the seating sits inside the circle. Professional washing. Rooms full of straight lines need one thing in them that has none, and at this diameter it is the only piece of furniture that will do it.
