The story of this rug

A plain gray loom-woven rug in Tencel® and cotton from the Taftan series, woven in Kütahya, in nine sizes, with 240 × 340 cm (7'10" × 11'2") in the middle of the range and 300 × 390 cm at the top of it — plain being relative, because the gray moves in soft bands as the angle changes, the way watered silk does.

01The feel of the surface

Only one is left. Stand over it and the surface is calm. Move, and shadowed transitions run across the field, following a faint striped structure in the weave that never resolves into a stripe you could point at.

02Where it sits in the house

That is the whole design, and it is why the rug behaves differently in a north-facing room than in a south-facing one, and differently again after dark. In a wide, empty space it is the calm; under a heavy console in an entrance hall it does the opposite job and completes the first impression without asking for any of it.

03What Tencel does

Wood, metal and pastel objects all sit well on top of it. Tencel® supplies the natural low shine, cotton the softness and the body, and the two are worked together on the looms at Kütahya, largely by women.

04At the loom in in Türkiye

Halıcızade is direct about what this construction is for: it is the affordable way to a knotted rug's appearance, and nobody at the house pretends the two are the same object. The pile is short and dense, so it holds little dust and takes a vacuum easily. Send it out for a proper clean rather than washing it at home. Loom-woven in Kütahya, Türkiye, largely by women weavers. Tencel® and cotton; no wool in the rug. Plain gray with a moiré movement that follows the angle you look from. A faint striped structure in the weave rather than a printed pattern. Short dense pile; very little dust and lint. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
