Red Abstract Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Zima Series

Red is the whole event here, layered from a warm scarlet down into natural orange and gathered around a single geometric form at the center. Red Abstract Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Zima Series: the pile Tencel®, the foundation cotton, the size 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"), woven on the Kütahya and Uşak looms. By daylight the reds separate and the layering becomes visible — three or four tones, none of them flat. After dark under a warm bulb they close up into one deep field and the geometry at the middle is the only structure left.

Textural marks run right across the surface and keep it from looking printed. It will not share a room quietly: put it under a broad seating group with pale oak, walnut and black metal, and let everything else stay plain. Zima was developed for this house alone, out of the idea of doors that open and close as a life goes on, and the drawing is meant to be read as a change rather than as a pattern.

01What Wool does

Tencel® yarn goes onto a cotton frame; lyocell comes from wood pulp and carries a soft natural luster, which in a red this saturated is what stops the color from going dead. The weaving is done in western Türkiye: the loom ties the knots and the finishing is done by hand. Each rug leaves with the tree of life this house puts into its designs. Lyocell luster, which is what keeps a saturated red from flattening. A room-sized 200 × 300 cm, for a large sitting room or a modern office. The house's tree-of-life mark on every piece. Vacuum it often; anything deeper goes to a professional washer. A red floor makes every other decision in a room harder, and this is the version of that decision worth making.
