Modern pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is red, burgundy in the ground.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Red into burgundy, running edge to edge in lyocell
Red is the hardest ground color to live with, and it is worth saying that before anything else. This is a red abstract Zima series rug, woven on a loom in Türkiye with a Tencel® face over a cotton foundation, 200 × 300 cm, about 6'7" × 9'10" for anyone measuring in feet, with burgundy in the deeper passages and no wool in it. What makes red difficult is that it moves more than any other floor color: under a warm bulb it deepens toward burgundy, under fluorescent light it flattens, and in strong daylight it can go orange.
What makes it worth the difficulty is that a room with a red floor needs almost nothing else — no picture, no accent chair, no second color. The Zima drawing here is abstract and modern, without the border a classical red rug would carry, so the color runs edge to edge and the shapes float in it rather than being framed by it. The construction is the series standard: warp and pile laid on a mechanical loom, ends and fringes done by hand, a tree of life woven in as the house mark.
Tencel® makes the face and cotton makes the foundation, so there is no wool involved — which matters to some buyers and is better said outright than found later. Lyocell holds a saturated dye better than most fibers and does not go dusty as it ages, so a red like this stays red.
The floor-level caution is simply that it will not go with an existing red — a rug this saturated fights any other red in the room, and one of them has to leave. Professional washing when the time comes. Loom-woven in Türkiye: machine structure, hand-finished ends. Tencel® on cotton, with no wool in the piece. An abstract, borderless field in red with burgundy in the depths. 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"), two pieces held. Lyocell holds saturated color, so the red does not go dusty with age. Marked with the Halıcızade tree of life. It will not share a room with another strong red. Professional washing. A red floor is decided once; the rest of the room follows from it.
A long look at the surface, the edge finish and the sizes.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
