Red Abstract Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Zima Series

On the Kütahya looms, where the loom ties the knots and the finishing is done by hand: Red Abstract Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Zima Series, a geometric abstract in bright red against dark tones, wool pile over cotton, and the rug spans 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"). A tree of life at the edge marks it as this house's own. Zima was drawn from the idea of doors. Some change a life when you walk through them and some close behind you, and you come out of each one a slightly different person — the series turns that into geometry rather than illustration.

The shapes are pared down to the point where the rug reads like something meant for a wall and laid face up instead. Red against the darker tones is a hard contrast, and the drawing carries it because nothing else on the field is competing. Wool above, cotton below.

01What the yarn is

The wool surface gives the familiar matt density of a rug you can stand on for years, and the cotton base is what keeps it square. Weaving happens on mechanical looms in Kütahya, and afterwards each rug is sent out to a household in the district, where a woman ties its fringes one by one.

02The mark of slow weaving

Every Zima piece carries the tree of life, which is the only mark on it. Loom-woven in Kütahya: machine knots, hand finishing. Wool pile on a cotton foundation — matt, dense, and hard-wearing. Bright red against dark tones, in a stripped-back geometric abstract. The series was designed from the idea of doors opening and closing across a life. Fringes knotted individually in the villages around the looms. Tree of life woven in; the series is made for Halıcızade alone. 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10") — a hotel lobby, an office, or a large sitting room. Vacuum regularly; professional washing when needed. Put it under dark wood and it turns serious.

Put it under white walls and it is the only thing anyone will mention.
