This one is a Gray Mink Oushak-Pattern Loom-Woven Wool Rug: wool over a cotton warp, medium pile, densely set, woven in the Aegean region of Türkiye; ten sizes, the largest 300 × 400 cm (9'10" × 13'1"). Gray and mink share the ground, and the difference between the two is what carries the drawing — a classical Oushak field of flowers and framing, heavy in the hand and not at all delicate on paper.

01Color that shifts through the day

Gray keeps the rug modern; mink is the warmer of the pair and is what stops it going cold in a north-facing room. The floral figures are large enough to read across a salon, which is why the series runs up to four meters. Loom weaving puts the density of a knotted rug into a fraction of the hours.

This piece is wool for the surface over a cotton warp, with nothing synthetic in it, and that is where the weight in the hand comes from.
