Classic pattern. The motif is built row by row as the weaving advances; it is only seen whole once it comes off the loom. The ground color is red.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Red Oushak-pattern loom-woven wool rug — a wide medallion drawn the way old Anatolian rugs drew them, its outlines softened, as though the pattern had been copied by hand from a rug that was already worn.
New Zealand fleece and bamboo viscose worked on cotton, made in Türkiye. It measures 160 × 230 cm, around 5'3" × 7'7". The field is a deep brick red that moves toward orange where light falls on it and toward oxblood where it does not.
Inside sits a single large medallion with blunt, rounded points rather than sharp ones, and the corner pieces repeat a quarter of the same figure. Oushak drawing has always been generous with empty ground — the space around the medallion does as much work as the medallion — and a modern loom reproduces that generosity better than it reproduces fine detail. The knots go in mechanically, and then people take over: shearing, the bound sides, the fringes.
New Zealand fleece makes up most of the pile, with bamboo viscose running through the lighter parts of the drawing for shine, and the structure under all of it is cotton. At this size it is a room rug rather than a hall rug.
A wash belongs with a specialist, not with a bucket. An Oushak medallion with softened outlines and plenty of open ground. Brick red field, shifting toward orange and oxblood as light moves. Bamboo viscose runs through the lighter figures; the rest of the pile is wool. Cotton warp and weft. Loom-woven in Türkiye: the knots by machine, the finish by hand. Measures 160 × 230 cm. Professional washing. Red rugs are usually bought for winter rooms; the medallion on this one is pale enough to carry it through a summer.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
