Black Karabagh-Pattern Digital-Print Rug, Luna Series

A digital-print rug from the Luna series: a Karabagh pattern laid over a black ground in orange and mixed colors, printed onto a cotton woven base with a synthetic surface. It goes into a domestic washing machine, which very few patterned rugs will.

01Reading the motif

Printed and finished in Türkiye, with fringed ends, in two sizes. Karabagh is a Caucasian drawing — angular medallions, hooked outlines, small stars crowding the space between them. Printed rather than dyed into a pile, the lines hold their edges and the color stays where the design put it, so the orange carries across a room and the black does the holding together.

02From the hand of the weaver

The same technique is why the rug is thin: there is almost no pile, and the pattern sits flat on the surface. Printing is what makes a rug like this cost what it costs, and the honest thing to say is that it reads as woven from standing height and reads as printed from a meter away.

03Which furniture, which room

That trade suits a kitchen, an entry, a summer floor or a rented room — anywhere a rug is walked on in shoes and then cleaned. Synthetic yarn on a cotton ground. Wash it cool and dry it flat rather than over a line. Digitally printed in Türkiye, synthetic surface on a cotton woven base. Karabagh pattern: Caucasian medallions with hooked edges and star fillers. Black ground, with orange leading the other colors in the field. Cleans in a household washing machine on a cool cycle. Thin through the body, with fringes at both ends. Two sizes: a 120 × 180 cm (3'11" × 5'11") plus a 75 × 300 cm (2'6" × 9'10") runner. Close up the pattern shows as print, not as weaving. It is a rug bought in the knowledge that it will be washed, which is a different sum from the one done over a rug that cannot be.
