02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Silk yarn

The surface uses Silk. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.

02

Traditional pattern

Traditional pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is red.

03

China weave

This rug is woven in China and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.

Red Framed Hand-Knotted Silk Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Sixty-four knots in a single square centimeter — 6,400 to the square decimeter — is what allows a rug this small to carry a full Ottoman drawing without losing a line of it. A hand-knotted silk rug, silk knots on a silk foundation, 63 × 93 cm (2'1" × 3'1"), red-grounded inside a drawn frame, woven in China.

01The origin of the pattern

One of one. The pattern belongs to the court repertoire that came down from the Ottoman palaces: a framed field, the frame itself filled with a running ornament, the red inside it worked with fine floral and scrolling work in gold and deeper burgundy.

02The mark of slow weaving

At this knot density the drawing does not have to simplify. Curves stay curved, a stem stays a stem, and the smallest elements in the border are still legible at reading distance rather than dissolving into steps, which is what happens to the same design on a coarser weave. Silk both above and below: the knots are silk and so is the foundation they are tied onto, which is why the piece is light in the hand and why it shifts between bright and dark as you turn it.

03Coming off the loom

Silk weaving in China long predates the pattern on it, and what you have here is a Chinese workshop's reading of a Turkish court design rather than a Turkish rug. At 63 × 93 cm it is the size of a cushion, and Halıcızade suggests framing it as a panel or laying it on a desk or a glass table rather than putting it on a floor. That is the honest use for it. Washing is a specialist's job and no one else's. What does 64 knots per square centimeter mean? It is a density measurement: sixty-four separate hand-tied knots occupy each square centimeter of the surface, or 6,400 to the square decimeter.

04How many centimeters, which room

A higher count buys a finer line, which is why the curves hold their shape here and the smallest border elements do not break down into steps. Why is a silk rug this size not meant for the floor? Silk pile is fine and takes light rather than traffic, and at 63 × 93 cm this piece is closer to a panel than to a floor covering.

05Knot by knot, by hand

The house suggests framing it, or setting it on a desk or a glass table, where the sheen is what you see rather than footmarks. Hand-knotted in China, in silk throughout — silk knots on a silk foundation. 64 knots per square centimeter, or 6,400 per square decimeter. An Ottoman court pattern: a framed field with floral and scrolling work in red, gold and burgundy. 63 × 93 cm (2'1" × 3'1"), which is cushion size. Intended for framing, a desk or a glass table rather than a floor. Often bought as a gift for a person or an institution. Specialist washing only. One piece only, at this size and this count. Silk of this fineness reads as two different rugs depending on which end you stand at, and framing it fixes the better of the two.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
