Cream Scattered-Motif Handwoven Wool Cushion Covers, Set of Two
Your rug is dispatched from Ankara and reaches you in 5-7 business days. Shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid up front, so nothing is collected at your door. Each rug is packed by hand to arrive exactly as it left the showroom.
Thirty-eight by thirty-nine centimeters — 1'3" square, near enough — and two of them. These are handwoven wool cushion covers from Türkiye in cream, with small motifs scattered across the face rather than arranged into a border or a center. Covers, not filled cushions, and they ship as a pair.
A scattered drawing is the oldest way of filling a small field and still the most forgiving. There is no center to get wrong, no border to bring round a corner, and the weaver can space the figures by eye as the work rises. What that produces is a face where no two quarters match, which at this size is visible from across a room. On cream the motifs read as shadow rather than as color, so the cover changes more with the light in the room than with the angle it is seen from.
Woven by hand, in wool, in Türkiye. Cream is the practical objection to this pair and it should be said first: a pale cushion in a room that gets used will show hands and hair sooner than a dark one, and it will want cleaning more often. Have that done professionally — wool felts in a domestic machine, and this face is thin enough that felting would pull the motifs out of line.

- Two covers of 38 × 39 cm (1'3" × 1'3"), square within a centimeter.
- Small motifs scattered over the field, spaced by eye rather than set out.
- No two quarters of a face repeat.
- Supplied as covers, without inserts.
- A pale face shows marks, and will need cleaning more often.
- Professional cleaning; wool felts in a domestic machine.
- One pair.
Square cushions get turned more often than rectangular ones, and a scattered drawing is the only kind that survives being turned.

There is no such thing as leaving here unhappy. I vouch for very few things in this country, but my trust in Halıcızade is complete.
In the end the rug that made my home its best self was mine. The hour I spent in the store was the most enjoyable shopping I have done.
I went after reading the reviews online. The reviews understate it — attention and knowledge, both at once.
The right place: I bought a rug in ten minutes, on my first visit. I only had to say what I was looking for.
