The story of this rug
Urkum Series, yellow, in 100% wool: a small loom-woven rug with navy, red and white geometric figures scattered over a mustard ground and fringes dyed several colors at both ends. It was woven in India for Halıcızade. The piece is 60 × 90 cm (2'0" × 2'11"), a doorway rather than a room. The yellow is a mustard rather than a lemon, which is why it can carry navy without the two of them shouting.
01The mark of slow weaving
Figures are set by eye and not on a grid, as Gabbeh weaving across Anatolia and the Middle East has always set them, so the spacing is uneven and the eye keeps moving. The fringes were dyed instead of left ivory, and on a piece this small that is the detail people crouch down to touch. Wool the whole way through, thick and firm, with the weight of a much larger rug in something you can carry in one hand. It is loom-woven: the structure comes off a mechanical loom in India and the finishing is hand work afterwards.
02How it feels underfoot
Anyone whose breathing reacts to wool should leave this one alone, because there is a great deal of it in a small area. It belongs at a kitchen sink, inside a front door, or on the side of a bed. Loom-woven in India for Halıcızade. All wool, thick and firm in the hand. Gabbeh-derived figures in navy, red and white on mustard yellow. Multicolored fringes at both ends. 60 × 90 cm (2'0" × 2'11"). Not advisable if anyone in the house reacts to wool. Professional washing. A rug this size rarely stays where it was first put.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
Living room
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules
Vacuum regularly
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Treat spills before they dry
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Leave washing to a professional
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?
It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.
How does the price change between sizes?
Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
Can I see the rug in Ankara?
Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.
Can I ask for a size that is not listed?
Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
