The story of this rug
Zade Series, red, in Tencel® over cotton: a loom-woven rug drawn after the Pazyryk rug, the oldest knotted rug archaeology has turned up, lifted out of a Scythian tomb in the Altai and kept in the Hermitage ever since.
01The origin of the pattern
One size exists, 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"). The center is laid out as a grid of squares rather than around a medallion, and the storytelling happens in the border, where riders and elephants move around the rug in single file.
02Color that shifts through the day
Red is the ground under nearly all of it, cut with beige wherever the figures need separating; near a window that red goes to brick, and under a lamp it drops toward oxblood. At intervals along the frame a small tree of life is hidden among the animals, which is Halıcızade's own addition to a pattern nobody owns. Somebody was buried with the original because they would not be parted from it, which is a strange thing to hold in mind about an object most people file under furniture.
03Coming off the loom
This version comes off the looms in Uşak: the loom ties the knots, the finish is hand work, and the fringes are closed by women in the villages nearby. The pile is Tencel®, the lyocell fiber Halıcızade is licensed to name, over a cotton foundation, and there is no wool in the piece. It is not hand-knotted, and we would rather write that down than let the surface imply otherwise. Loom-woven in Uşak, Türkiye: the loom ties the knots, the finishing is by hand. A Tencel® surface over cotton, with no wool anywhere in the piece. Riders and elephants in single file around a gridded red field. A small Halıcızade tree of life is worked into the border in several places. The Pazyryk rug is one fifth-century BC piece, taken from a frozen burial in the Altai and now among the holdings of the Hermitage in Saint Petersburg. This rug borrows its layout and its animal border, and it is woven now, in Uşak, in Tencel® and cotton. Twenty-five centuries after the first one went into the ground, the pattern is still doing the same job: covering a floor and being looked at.

Which size fits your room?
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
Living room
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
Dining room
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Bedroom
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Hallway · runner
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules
Vacuum regularly
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Treat spills before they dry
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Leave washing to a professional
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?
For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.
Can I return it if I do not like it?
Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.
Will the color match what I see on screen?
Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.
Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?
It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.
How does the price change between sizes?
Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
Can I see the rug in Ankara?
Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.
Can I ask for a size that is not listed?
Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
