The story of this rug

A kilim close to square: 142 × 166 cm (4'8" × 5'5"), about 2.4 square meters (roughly 25 square feet). Handwoven in wool and cotton in Türkiye, one of the cicims that carry the Selendi name. In the Aegean kilims known as Selendi, the pattern does not gather at a center; it travels along crosswise bands, and the kilim has no middle. On a near-square field, that gives a surface that reads the same from either end. There are three cicim bands.

01Color that shifts through the day

Two have a bright orange ground with gray-green and purple armed diamonds and large black figures between them. The middle band is cobalt, with red diamonds and small white figures. Cream stripes edge the orange bands on both sides, and narrow stripes of red, blue, green and black fill the spaces between. It belongs in a square entry or under a round coffee table.

02How many centimeters, which room

Under an 80 cm round table it leaves more than 30 cm of kilim on every side, and the stripes look even around the table. The orange bands give the room a warm weight; a cobalt ceramic or a green plant beside it brings the cooler colors to the surface. It is a chest piece: woven years ago, stored in a chest and never laid down. The S and X marks on the cream stripes change color as they go: black, blue, pink.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
