Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.
Classic, Authentic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is burgundy, red.
This rug is woven in Afghanistan. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Burgundy that reads as two colors between morning and lamp
Handwoven Afghan Patterned Wool Burgundy Bilicik Bedroom Rug, is handcrafted in Afghanistan by Turkmen and Afghan artisans using entirely natural wool and cotton yarns. Since the backing is made of cotton and the surface of wool, the warm, soft texture of natural wool can be felt during use. Regarded as one of the highest-quality rugs in the Afghan Turkmen collection, Bilicik rugs are known for their sturdy construction, which allows them to retain their shape for many years thanks to their high knot density.
Weaving each square meter of these rugs takes approximately four weeks, and this intensive labor throughout the production process is one of the clearest indicators of their fine craftsmanship.
Because the patterns are woven from memory, each Bilicik rug features slight motif variations. These differences give every rug its own distinctive character and help set it apart from mass-produced products.
When the powerful effect of Burgundy is combined with traditional Afghan Turkmen motifs, it brings a warm and balanced look to the living space. Handwoven Afghan Patterned Wool Burgundy Bilicik Bedroom Rug; highlights the warm effect of Burgundy in bedrooms furnished with natural oak flooring, light cream walls, and furniture with simple lines.
Measuring 124 x 182 cm, it offers a practical size for styling the area at the foot of the bed or creating a decorative focal point in an empty part of the room. When paired with cream and beige bedding, linen-textured bedspreads, and natural wood nightstands, the Burgundy base creates a striking yet balanced contrast among the light colors.
Daylight filtering through sheer curtains highlights the details of the Afghan Turkmen motifs, while warm-toned lamps on the nightstands help the Burgundy appear softer in the evening. In bedrooms completed with a wooden dresser, large-leafed green plants, and handmade ceramic accessories, the rug’s traditional patterns create a harmonious whole with the natural materials.
Also suitable for studies or spacious entryways, this model offers flexibility with its size, which can be adapted to different living spaces. Bringing traditional weaving culture together with natural materials and exceptional craftsmanship, Bilicik rugs create lasting value in any living space with their durable construction, designed for years of use. Entirely handwoven in Afghanistan by Turkmen and Afghan artisans using a high knot density. Its cotton backing and natural wool surface provide a warm, comfortable, and natural experience. The fact that approximately one square meter takes four weeks to weave demonstrates the intensive labor and exceptional craftsmanship invested in the product. Since each rug is woven from memory, its motifs feature slight variations, giving every piece its own distinctive character. Thanks to its high weaving quality, it offers durability for many years and is a special piece that can be passed down from generation to generation.
A long look at the surface, the edge finish and the sizes.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
