02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Hand-knotted

Warp tension on the loom is set by hand and corrected several times during the weaving. The finished centimeters move with it.

02

Wool surface

Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.

03

Classic pattern layout

Classic, Authentic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is burgundy, red.

04

Afghanistan work

This rug is woven in Afghanistan. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

Burgundy Ethnic Afghan Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Bilicik — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Handwoven Afghan-Patterned Wool Burgundy Bilicik Rug, crafted by Turkmen and Afghan artisans living in Afghanistan using traditional weaving techniques, is a special rug that ranks among the most distinguished examples in its collection thanks to its high knot density.

01What the yarn is

Made entirely from natural wool and cotton yarns, this model has a cotton foundation and a wool surface. This means that the part your feet touch during use offers the warm and comfortable texture of natural wool.

02The mark of slow weaving

The fact that approximately four weeks of intensive work is required to weave each square meter clearly demonstrates how labor-intensive the rug’s production process is. The characteristic Afghan Turkmen motifs set against the Burgundy ground give the living space a strong identity while creating an exceptionally harmonious look with walnut, oak, and natural wood furniture.  Handwoven Afghan-Patterned Wool Burgundy Bilicik Rug; creates a balanced contrast by enhancing the sense of warmth in living rooms decorated with gray, anthracite, silver details, and shades of white.

03The air of the room

Placing the Bilicik rug at the center of spaces completed with a light-colored accent chair, a side table with slender metal legs, and naturally textured linen curtains creates an atmosphere that is both calm and full of character.

04From the hand of the weaver

Thanks to its high knot density, this rug can maintain its original durability for many years and also stands out as a valuable piece that can be passed down from generation to generation. Because the patterns are woven from memory, each rug features slight motif variations, making every product completely unique. Measuring 117 x 184 cm, the Handwoven Afghan-Patterned Wool Burgundy Ethnic Bilicik Rug can be comfortably used in many living spaces, from home offices and living rooms to bedrooms and entryways, making it a timeless choice that brings traditional handicrafts into modern interiors. Entirely handwoven in Afghanistan by Turkmen and Afghan artisans with a high knot density. Its cotton foundation and natural wool yarn surface provide a warm, comfortable, and natural experience. The fact that approximately four weeks are required to weave each square meter demonstrates the intensive labor and superior craftsmanship invested in the product. Since each rug is woven from memory, its motifs feature slight variations, giving every piece a distinctive character. Its high weaving quality provides the durability needed for many years of use, making it a special piece that can be passed down from generation to generation.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?
