Viscose weave
The shine of viscose comes from the flat face of the fiber, not from a coating applied afterward. The surface may wear, the light stays.

Classic pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is blue.
This rug is woven in India and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
Cold blue under a cream-gold border, handwoven in India
Its blue is the color of an overcast winter sky rather than of water: a floral rug from the Safir Series, 198 × 295 cm (6'6" × 9'8"), handwoven in India, wool surface on cotton, bamboo viscose in the motifs, closed by a cream and gold border.
One piece. Softness in the ground makes the drawing possible. Every motif was trimmed around by hand with shears once the knotting had finished, so the pattern stands slightly above the surface and casts a small shadow that moves as the light does — a relief the palm finds as readily as the eye does.
The cream-gold border draws a warm line around all that coolness. The knotting is dense, which is what fine floral work needs if it is going to survive being woven at all, and it is why the outlines here are sharp rather than approximate. This series is woven for Halıcızade in India: cotton below, wool knotted above it.
Bamboo viscose is used only in the drawing, where it throws light back the way silk throws it; the wool does the warmth and the wear. The reading of the Oushak repertoire is pastel and contemporary rather than antique.
Blue at this scale is a strong decision — it will look right beside burgundy-toned wood and beside gray and cream, and it will look wrong beside orange. Have it washed by a professional and left alone otherwise. Handwoven in India for this house: wool surface, cotton foundation. 198 × 295 cm (6'6" × 9'8") — a large salon or a bedroom taken end to end. Soft overcast blue with a cream and gold border around it. Motifs carved out one by one with shears, leaving a raised, shadowed relief. Bamboo viscose in the drawing for a silk-like shine; wool for the warmth and the wear. Dense knotting, which is what keeps fine floral outlines clean. A pastel, modern reading of classical Oushak drawing. Sits with burgundy-toned wood or with gray and cream. A blue floor is a colder thing than people expect, and in a south-facing room that is exactly what it is for.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
