Cream Tasseled Handwoven Wool Cushion Covers, Set of Two

Closer to a small weaving than to soft furnishing: two cream wool cushion covers, handwoven in Türkiye, 38 × 39 cm apiece (1'3" × 1'3") and finished with tassels. They are supplied as covers and sold in twos.

The tassels change what the object is. A cover without them is a cloth panel; with them it joins the family of woven things that have hung on walls and been thrown over saddles, and a room reads it that way even if nobody could say why. Cream keeps it quiet. Against oak, against linen, against a wall painted anything at all, a cream face is the one that does not have to be planned for, and the tassels then supply the small amount of incident the cover needs to be worth having.

All wool, worked by hand on a loom in Türkiye. The tassels are hand-finished and they are also the weak point: they tangle, they collect dust at the tips, and they come apart if they are pulled. Straighten them with fingers rather than a brush. The covers themselves want professional cleaning, since cream wool and household detergent produce a yellow cast that does not come back out.
