Burgundy Afghan-Pattern Machine-Woven Rug, Kehribar Series

It goes in the washing machine, which is unusual enough for a patterned rug to be the first fact worth reporting. This is a burgundy Kehribar series rug, made on power looms in Türkiye, acrylic and synthetic yarn throughout, drawn with an Afghan pattern and finished with a non-slip back. It is thin, and it is made in five sizes. The Afghan drawing behind it is a classical one: repeated octagonal figures, a deep madder-red ground and small filler motifs between them, the arrangement Turkmen and Afghan weavers have used for generations.

01From ground to pile

Rendered here in synthetic yarn at a low pile, the pattern keeps its geometry and loses the abrash — the tonal drift that hand-dyed wool produces and that no machine can imitate. What it gains is a rug you can put in a kitchen doorway. Machine-woven in Türkiye. Acrylic takes color strongly, which is why the reds hold at this depth, and the low pile is what allows the rug into a washing machine at all.

02Coming off the loom

Nobody here calls it hand-knotted, because it is not. Check your drum capacity before the first wash: a rug in the larger sizes will not fit a domestic machine, whatever the label on it says. Made by machine in Türkiye; the yarns are acrylic and synthetic. Afghan pattern — repeated octagonal figures on a burgundy ground. Thin, low pile, with a non-slip back. Machine washable, subject to the size of your drum. Made in five sizes. No hand-knotting is claimed here, and none is present. Against pale oak the red behaves like a lit fireplace; with blue and green in the room it turns into the warm corner instead.
