Beige and Cinnamon Abstract Loom-Woven Tencel® Rug, Zima Series

Two towns and mostly women at the looms — Kütahya and Uşak — and out of them the Beige and Cinnamon Abstract Loom-Woven Tencel® Rug, Zima Series: a Tencel® pile over cotton, a light beige field with warm cinnamon climbing through the middle, 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10"). The cinnamon does not sit still as a medallion.

01The origin of the pattern

It rises from one edge toward the center and thins out again, and the abstract marks scattered near the border close around it loosely, the way a frame closes on a picture without touching it.

02Color that shifts through the day

In daylight the beige is the color of raw plaster and the cinnamon reads as rust; after dark both drop a tone and the whole surface goes closer to leather. Nothing in the drawing is symmetrical, which is why the rug does not need to be centered under furniture. The looms for it are in Kütahya and in Uşak, and most of the weavers are women.

03How it feels underfoot

Tencel® — the lyocell Halıcızade is licensed to name — makes the whole of the pile over a cotton foundation, and no wool goes into the piece. Every Zima rug is numbered in the weave itself, which is what tells one from another afterwards, and the drawings come out of the house's own studio, this one from a line of Rumi about moving on rather than settling.

04From the hand of the weaver

Loom-woven means what it says: the loom carries the structure, the hand work is in the finish, and this is not sold as a hand-knotted rug. Loom-woven in Kütahya and Uşak, Türkiye. Tencel® pile on a cotton foundation, with no wool. Light beige, with cinnamon rising through the center and abstract marks at the edges. Each piece carries its own woven-in number.
