The story of this rug

Multicolor Abstract Handwoven Wool Kilim, Drop Series — a flatweave in wool over cotton, handwoven in Indian workshops for Halıcızade, its color arriving in loose blocks and wandering bands rather than in a repeat.

01Reading the motif

A kilim carries no pile: the pattern is made by the weft alone, so both faces show it. The transitions look like accidents and are not. One tone runs into the next, a color turns up where nothing prepared for it, and the weight of each has been judged against the ones on either side — which is the difference between a kilim that is busy and a kilim that is alive.

02From the hand of the weaver

From across a room the whole thing reads as one field of color; walk up to it and it separates into a few dozen decisions. Wool takes the dye and cotton holds the structure, the two meeting on the loom in workshops that weave this series for one buyer. Because there is no pile the surface stands only a few millimeters off the floor, which is why a kilim passes under a door where a knotted rug will not. Wipe a spill while it is still a spill; anything worse than that belongs to a rug washer. Handwoven in India, in traditional workshops weaving this series for Halıcızade alone. Wool in the surface, cotton in the foundation. Flat-woven with no pile, so the drawing appears on both sides. Abstract color blocks graded against one another rather than scattered at random. Made in several sizes, from a corner piece up to a room-sized one. Only millimeters thick — it clears most interior doors. Marks can be wiped from the surface; send it out for a full wash. A flatweave shows you its own construction, and that is most of the reason to want one: what you walk on is the structure itself, not a surface laid over it.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
