02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.

02

Authentic pattern layout

Authentic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is colorful.

03

Türkiye work

This rug is woven in Türkiye. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Technical details

Multicolor Anatolian Handwoven Wool Kayseri Kilim — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Kayseri sits at the foot of Erciyes in central Anatolia and has been weaving for as long as the records go back. This is a handwoven wool kilim from there: flat, pileless, multicolored, worked in the Anatolian motif repertoire, 114 × 199 cm (3'9" × 6'6"). A single piece, and an older one. A kilim is weft-faced, which is the technical way of saying that the horizontal threads are beaten down so tightly that the vertical ones vanish under them.

01Up close to the pattern

Nothing is knotted, nothing stands proud, and the pattern exists only as the meeting of colored wefts — which is why kilim motifs are always angular, why the piece weighs so little, and why the reverse is as finished as the front.

02At the loom in in Anatolia

Where two colors meet along a vertical line the weaver leaves a slit, and holding one of these up to a window shows those slits as a row of small bright lines. That is correct construction, not damage. The motifs are the standard Anatolian vocabulary — hooked forms, stepped diamonds, running borders — and the color is what marks it out, several strong dyes at once rather than a single dominant field. It was woven by hand, in wool, in Türkiye, and the house lists it among its older and rarer stock.

03The tone of the ground

Expect what that implies: a corner that has curled, a color that has moved a shade, an edge that is not perfectly straight. Have it washed by a kilim specialist before it goes down, and put a pad under it, because a flatweave with nothing beneath it wanders.

04The mark of slow weaving

One of one. Handwoven in wool in Kayseri, central Türkiye. Weft-faced flatweave: no pile, no knots, and the same face on both sides. 114 × 199 cm (3'9" × 6'6"), a single piece. Anatolian motifs — hooked forms, stepped diamonds and running borders. Slits along the vertical color joins are part of the technique. Light enough to hang, and it is often the better use of one. An older piece, with the small irregularities that follow from that. Washing by a kilim specialist, and a pad underneath. Hung on a wall a kilim stops being furniture and starts being the drawing it always was.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?
