02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Hand-knotted

Warp tension on the loom is set by hand and corrected several times during the weaving. The finished centimeters move with it.

02

Silk yarn

Silk takes dye into the fiber rather than carrying it on the surface. As the pile shortens the tone does not lighten.

03

Classic pattern layout

Classic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is blue.

04

China work

This rug is woven in China. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

Blue Framed-Field Hand-Knotted Pure Silk Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

An 8 × 8 knot count is what makes the smallest parts of this drawing legible at all: Blue Framed-Field Hand-Knotted Pure Silk Rug, worked entirely in silk by weavers in China, with flowers, curling branch work and a series of frames running in toward the center.

01How it feels underfoot

The Turkish source states no dimension for this piece, so this page states none. Density and fineness are the same fact in a silk rug. At this count the branch work can be drawn as a line rather than as a block of color, and the frames hold their edges instead of stepping. Silk changes what the blue is doing hour by hour — bright and nearly wet in direct light, quiet and deep away from it — so the rug looks unlike itself at breakfast and at night without anything having moved.

02From the hand of the weaver

Blue at this pitch settles against marble floors, thin metal detail and pale upholstery. It is knotted by hand in China in the traditional way, in silk alone, and that is the part that has grown scarce: fewer workshops will give the time a full silk pile takes, and rugs made this way are now collected on craft grounds as much as on looks. Between two armchairs, in front of a fireplace, under a piano, or in front of a desk in a classical study is where the fineness registers, because those are the places people stand close to it.

03Which furniture, which room

Walnut or mahogany furniture, a leather or nubuck chair, a brass-footed side table and a warm lamp bring the sheen out. Cleaning belongs to a specialist; given that, it keeps its look for a very long time. Hand-knotted in China, in silk alone. An 8 × 8 knot count, which is what lets the fine detail be drawn rather than blocked. A blue field with flowers, curling branches and frames running inward. The blue shifts with the angle of the light through the day. The Turkish source gives no dimension, so none is stated here. Fully silk hand-knotted rugs have become steadily harder to find. Cleaning by a specialist only. What does an 8 × 8 knot count mean? It describes how many knots the weaver ties across a fixed unit of surface in each direction.

04Knot by knot, by hand

The higher the count, the finer the line a design can be drawn in, which is why the frames and the branch work on this rug stay sharp instead of stepping. Why have all-silk hand-knotted rugs become rare? Knotting in silk takes far longer than knotting in wool, and any unevenness stays visible in the finished surface. Workshops willing to accept that have grown fewer, so pieces woven wholly in silk are now bought for their craft as much as for how they look. It rewards standing over it, which is not a thing you can say about most floors.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
