İkinci El Karpuzlu Hereke Desenli El Dokuma Lacivert Yün Halı, bu partinin en renkli parçasıdır. Lacivert zemin üzerinde motifler dikey sıralar hâlinde diziliyor; her sırada kırmızı, mavi, yeşil ve krem renklerde yuvarlağa yakın, dilimli motifler var. Sıralar arasındaki boşluk düzenli, yani desen bir ızgara üzerine oturuyor.

Full description

This hand-knotted Hereke rug ranks its motifs in vertical rows across a navy ground — rounded lobed forms in red, blue, green and cream, evenly spaced on a grid, inside a wide red main border carrying smaller motifs of its own. It measures 195 × 290 cm (6'5" × 9'6"), wool pile over a cotton warp and weft, woven in Türkiye. Second-hand, and the most colorful piece in this group.

Karpuzlu is the market's name for the lobed motif, whose segments are read as the cut face of a watermelon. Setting motifs on a grid instead of around a central medallion means the rug looks the same from every side, a practical advantage where a room has more than one door. Navy ground with a red border is the classic Anatolian pairing and it works directly with walnut and mahogany; put the same rug in a white room with plain furniture and it becomes the single piece with any character in it.

Wool above, cotton beneath, hand-knotted in Türkiye. Where four or five colors appear in every row, the weaver selects a different yarn at almost every knot, and the weaving slows accordingly — in this kind of rug the labor comes from the number of color changes rather than the complexity of any one motif. Use has bedded the pile down, brought a sheen up on the surface and softened the colors a step. Against that, wet cleaning at home on a multicolored hand-knotted rug can run one color into the next, so spills are treated dry and the rest goes to a rug washer.

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
