02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Silk-blend weave

The glow of silk is not the shine of a synthetic: it does not bounce off the surface, it comes from inside the weave. Depth, not reflection.

02

Modern pattern

Modern pattern; the motif edges sit on the order of the warp, so they come out sharp. The ground is blue, gray.

03

India workshop

This rug is woven in India. Knowing where a rug comes from is not only a matter of curiosity: yarn, dye and weaving habits change from region to region.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. In a rug in direct sun the color opens unevenly over the years; drawing the curtain halfway or turning the rug now and then prevents that.

Gray Abstract Round Hand-Knotted Wool and Silk Rug, Aren Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Seen from above it is a small planet: cloud forms in beige, gold and steel blue drifting across a gray ground, on a rug that is 298 cm (9'9") across and completely round. Gray Abstract Round Hand-Knotted Wool and Silk Rug, Aren Series — wool and silk, knotted by hand in India. There is one. The comparison is not accidental; the round format is what turns the abstraction into geography. Steel blue collects in certain regions and thins out elsewhere, gold slips warm light into a cool gray-blue palette, and the impression is of sun coming down between clouds onto whatever lies beneath.

Put it near a globe or an old map and the joke completes itself. In a plain gray study it does the opposite and becomes the only weather in the room. Silk runs beside the matt wool and shows itself where the ground is palest and has least color to compete against.

01The mark of slow weaving

The count is high and the weave close, which is what keeps a round rug true — a circle shows distortion far faster than a rectangle does, and a slack one goes oval. Months of hand work in India stand behind it, and Aren pieces are made in small numbers.

02Where it sits in the house

A round rug of nearly three meters needs clear floor around its whole edge, so a room with furniture pushed back to the walls suits it best. Wipe and vacuum; professional washing when it needs more. Hand-knotted in India in wool and silk, over months. 298 cm (9'9") across, and round. Beige, gold and steel-blue cloud forms drifting over gray. Silk registers most where the ground is palest. A high, even knot count — what keeps a circle from reading as an oval. Made in small numbers; this piece exists once. Needs clear floor all the way round its edge. Wipe and vacuum; professional washing when it needs more. Why is a round rug harder to weave than a rectangular one? A circle shows any distortion immediately.

03From the hand of the weaver

Uneven tension that a rectangle would absorb makes a round rug read as an oval instead, so the knot count has to stay high and even all the way out to the edge. Where is the Aren series woven? Aren rugs are knotted by hand in India, over months per piece, at a high knot density.

04Choosing the size

Each design is made in small numbers rather than in a standing production run, so sizes come and go. Round rugs get bought for the shape and kept for the drawing, and this one was drawn to be looked down at.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?
