01Which tone on the ground

There is one. A plain rug lives or dies on how its color moves, and navy is the hardest test of that. Here the tone shifts in soft waves across the field, the way shadow moves at night, and it is a consequence of hand-dyed yarn rather than of any pattern.

02Which furniture, which room

Against light furniture the contrast is sharp enough to organize a whole room on its own. Against dark furniture the rug more or less disappears and the room simply feels deeper than it did. Weavers knot it by hand, two loops to a warp pair, which is slow work and is the reason a plain rug can still be worth what a patterned one is.

03What the yarn is

The face is wool with nothing blended into it. The foundation is mostly cotton and holds a small amount of synthetic yarn for stability, which the house prints rather than omits. Washing does not belong at home. Hand-knotted with the double knot, in the Pinhan series drawn for Halıcızade. Deep navy across the entire field, with no pattern. The tone moves in soft waves, a result of hand-dyed yarn. Wool face; cotton foundation with a small quantity of synthetic yarn for stability. 200 × 300 cm (6'7" × 9'10") — a full sitting room, a dining floor or a large bedroom. A plain dark field shows lint and pale hairs more readily than a patterned one. Sweep or vacuum at home; send it out to be washed. The right dark rug does not make a room look smaller, and this is one of the ones that does not.
