02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Handwoven rug

A hand-knotted rug is dense and heavy; laid on the floor it does not slide and does not spring underfoot. You can verify the density of the weave on a scale.

02

Wool surface

Wool fiber is naturally crimped and returns to itself after being crushed under weight. Move the sofa and wait for the mark to go.

03

Classic pattern

Classic, Authentic pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads burgundy, red.

04

Afghanistan production

This rug is made in Afghanistan. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.

Burgundy Afghan-Pattern Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Khamyap — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Khamyap is the reachable way into an Afghan Turkmen rug, and the house says so instead of dressing it up: medium knot density, wool over cotton, tied entirely by hand in Afghanistan. Burgundy Afghan-Pattern Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Khamyap, 206 × 303 cm (6'9" × 9'11"), a burgundy field with traditional Turkmen drawing. One piece. Medium density does not mean thin.

01Which furniture, which room

The rug is solid enough to take the traffic of a main room for years, and at three meters it gathers a three-seat sofa, a two-seat and an armchair into one arrangement instead of leaving them adrift.

02Knot by knot, by hand

Bukhara and Herat motifs are what the field carries — the drawings Afghan weaving has kept unaltered for centuries. Burgundy agrees with light oak and walnut, and in a room upholstered in cream or off-white it becomes the focus.

03From ground to pile

Under a dark wood dining table, or in a study with a high ceiling, the Afghan character comes out more sharply still. Wool covers the whole of the surface. The spine is chiefly cotton, and a little recycled synthetic yarn goes in with it for durability, which the house declares rather than conceals — so the fiber underfoot is wool, and the structure beneath it is stronger than cotton alone would make it.

04Reading the motif

The weavers hold the pattern in memory, so motifs vary a little from rug to rug and from row to row. Beside plain modern furniture it supplies all the age in the room by itself. Professional washing. Tied by hand in Afghanistan by Turkmen weavers. Wool surface; the spine is chiefly cotton, lightly reinforced with recycled synthetic yarn. Bukhara and Herat motifs on a burgundy ground. 206 × 303 cm (6'9" × 9'11") — a full seating group, or a dining floor. Medium knot density, which is what makes it the accessible Afghan hand-knot. Solid enough for years of traffic in a main room. Motifs carried in memory, so each rug differs slightly. Professional washing. It is the piece that gives a bare modern room a history it did not earn.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
