02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Woven by hand

A square meter tied by hand takes weeks, and that time is written into the surface. The pattern gathers itself row by row.

02

Wool yarn

The air trapped between wool fibers holds heat and keeps the cold of the floor from your feet. The same air balances humidity in summer.

03

Classic pattern

Classic, Authentic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is burgundy, red in the ground.

04

Afghanistan weaving tradition

This rug is woven in Afghanistan. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.

Burgundy Bukhara-Motif Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Khamyap — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Wool on the surface, cotton in the spine, and a measure of recycled synthetic yarn set into that spine for strength — the house names all three rather than stopping at the flattering one. Burgundy Bukhara-Motif Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Khamyap, 194 × 297 cm (6'4" × 9'9"), knotted by Turkmen weavers in Afghanistan.

01Which tone on the ground

A single piece. Burgundy is the color Afghan Turkmen weaving is best known for, and the motifs laid on it are the ones that have been passed along for centuries: Bukhara and Herat forms, repeated at a scale that reads as texture from across a room and as drawing from a step away.

02Choosing the size

The size takes a whole seating arrangement inside it. In a salon with a pale L-shaped sofa the ground is the strong statement, and black metal table legs, walnut in the media unit and linen at the window all soften into it. Knot density is medium, which is the deliberate choice that makes Khamyap the most reachable of the Afghan hand-knotted weaves without giving up how long it lasts.

03The tone of the ground

On light oak or natural walnut boards the burgundy reads warmer; against cream, stone and pale gray upholstery it reads as contrast. Rooms with big windows get the most out of it, because daylight is what brings the livelier tones of the burgundy and the Afghan drawing forward. Every rug is worked from memory, so no two come out alike.

04The mark of slow weaving

Cleaning belongs to a professional. Hand-knotted in Afghanistan by Turkmen weavers. 194 × 297 cm (6'4" × 9'9") — a salon seating group, or under a dining table. Burgundy ground with Bukhara and Herat motifs repeating across it. Wool surface over a cotton spine, with a measure of recycled synthetic added for wear. Medium knot density — the accessible end of Afghan hand-knotting, and durable with it. In daylight the livelier tones of the burgundy and the drawing both come forward. Worked without a cartoon, so every piece is slightly different. Professional cleaning. Modern furniture is easy to date and this drawing is not, which is the entire argument for putting the two together.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
