The surface uses Natural, Wool, Silk. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Authentic pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is blue.
This rug is woven in India and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.
The Jaipur mark on it, and a blue that reads green
It carries the mark of Jaipur, a weaving house known worldwide for its design, and that is why the rug is not anonymous. A hand-knotted piece in blue with real silk worked through it over wool and cotton, made in India, its vintage drawing taken from Anatolian sources.
One of one. The color is the rarity: a range that sits between blue and green without ever settling on either, so the rug reads blue in one light and green in another. The silk in the pattern is real silk and does what real silk does — it takes light at a different angle from the wool beside it, which produces the watered, moiré-like movement across the surface.
That effect comes out of the weaving technique rather than from any finish applied afterward. The drawing is Anatolian in origin and modern in how far it has been simplified. Wool and cotton make the body of the rug, and silk is used where the pattern needs to lift. Nothing about the surface is uniform, and that irregularity is evidence of hand work rather than a fault in it: the same design woven twice would not come out the same way twice.
It belongs somewhere it will be looked at: a sitting room, a large entrance hall, a study. Professional cleaning, and nothing left wet on the silk. Hand-knotted in India and signed by the Jaipur weaving house. Real silk worked through the pattern, over wool and cotton. A rare blue-green range that shifts between the two by light. Watered, moiré-like surface produced by the weaving technique itself. Vintage drawing derived from Anatolian designs. Deliberately uneven surface — the mark of hand weaving. Professional cleaning; nothing left wet on the silk. It is the kind of rug that decides the color of everything else in the room, and it should be bought knowing that.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
