The story of this rug

Mamluk is a drawing out of Cairo — the concentric, kaleidoscopic geometry the Mamluk sultans' workshops were weaving at the end of the fifteenth century — and it is what covers this burgundy rug, woven by machine in Türkiye out of acrylic and synthetic yarn, thin and low in profile. Burgundy is the right ground for the pattern.

01When you walk in

Those Cairene rugs were built on red, with the geometry stepping outward from a star at the center, and this version keeps the arrangement while flattening the palette down to something a modern room can absorb. A short pile suits fine geometry: the lines stay legible instead of blurring at the edges, which is what happens when the same drawing is put on a deep rug. The consequence is that there is very little underfoot.

02Coming off the loom

This is a covering rather than a cushion, and it is better said now than found out later. Acrylic and synthetic yarn, machine-woven in Türkiye. Mamluk geometry — concentric medallions stepping out from a center, after the Cairo workshops of the late fifteenth century. Burgundy ground, handled in the ethnic register rather than the classical one. Thin and low-pile, which is exactly what keeps the geometry sharp. Almost no cushioning; put something under it if that matters. It goes in the washing machine. One left.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
