02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

Wool fiber carries its own natural oil, lanolin; dust and dirt sit on the surface instead of entering the fiber. That is why a vacuum does so much.

02

Classic pattern layout

Classic pattern. The ground and the motif are not parts of separate processes but of the same weave; the two advance together. The ground tone is brown.

03

Türkiye work

This rug is woven in Türkiye. We write down where it comes from, because we want to be able to name the workshop when someone asks.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. What wears a rug down over the years is not a stain but the dust that settles at the base of the pile and grinds the fibers from inside with every step.

Technical details

Brown Frame-Pattern Handwoven Wool Rug, Ottoman Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

First-shearing fleece from Erzurum, the oiliest and most reflective wool the Turkish highlands produce, is what this rug is made of: an Ottoman Series frame-pattern rug in brown, 165 × 213 cm (5'5" × 7'0"), handwoven in Türkiye with the Turkish double knot.

01How it feels underfoot

The series is finished, and this is one of the pieces left. Erzurum wool is prized for a reason that shows rather than reads: the natural oil left in a first shearing makes the fiber throw light back instead of absorbing it, so a brown that would be dull in another fleece has a low shine to it here.

02Up close to the pattern

The pattern is a frame drawn from Oushak sources, a border inside a border, holding a field of brown, beige and gold. On dark stone and dark timber floors that palette separates cleanly; on pale boards it warms everything within a meter of it. The knot is the Turkish one — the symmetrical double knot, tied around two warps, which is the knot Anatolia has used for as long as anyone has been counting.

03Comes from from Anatolia

It is slower than the alternative and it holds better, and it is the reason old Anatolian rugs survive with their pile intact. The Ottoman Series is no longer in production, so what exists is what exists.

04Where it is laid

In front of a seating group, in an entrance hall, or in a room where the furniture is already old, it will look like it was there first. It wants professional washing rather than a home clean. Handwoven in Türkiye from first-shearing Erzurum fleece. Turkish double knot — symmetrical, tied around two warps. Frame-within-a-frame pattern drawn from historic Oushak motifs. Brown, beige and gold; strongest against dark stone and dark wood. The oil in a first shearing gives the wool its natural sheen. 165 × 213 cm (5'5" × 7'0") — a seating group, a hall, a bedroom. Professional washing. Production of the series has ended; this is a single remaining piece. What is first-shearing Erzurum wool? It is the fleece taken at a sheep's first shearing in the Erzurum highlands of eastern Türkiye.

05The mark of slow weaving

That first fleece keeps more of its natural oil than later ones, which makes the fiber softer to handle, brighter under light, and more resistant to wear once it is knotted into a pile. What is the Turkish double knot? The Turkish or Gördes knot is a symmetrical knot tied around two warp threads rather than one. It grips more firmly than the asymmetrical alternative and takes longer to tie, which is why Anatolian rugs knotted this way keep their pile and their shape over very long service. When a series ends the remaining pieces stop being stock and start being what is left, and this is one of them.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
