Red Oushak-Pattern Loom-Woven Wool Rug, Zara Series

Oushak, in western Türkiye, has been weaving rugs for five hundred years, and this one is made there: the Zara Series Oushak-Patterned Red Loom-Woven Rug, its wool pile set on a cotton foundation, the red field carrying blue and green through the drawing.

01The origin of the pattern

Its dimensions are a modest 80 × 150 cm (2'7" × 4'11") oblong, a bedside format. The pattern is an Oushak one, redrawn rather than copied — the large-scale medallions and open field of the regional tradition, with the crowding taken out so it works on a small rug.

02Color that shifts through the day

Red is the ground and the reason to buy it; blue and green surface inside the motifs and stop the red from flattening into a single block. On dark wood the whole thing goes quiet.
