Blue Scandinavian-Pattern Loom-Woven Tencel Rug, Zara Series — a calm mid-blue ground with small geometric figures scattered thinly over it, nothing repeating close enough to become a grid. At 130 × 190 cm — 4'3" by 6'3" — the rug suits a study, a teenager's room or the foot of a bed; 90 × 150 cm and 170 × 240 cm are also made. Northern design keeps its motifs sparse and lets the ground do most of the talking, and that is the arrangement here.

The figures are minimal — a few lines, an outline, a shape too plain to name — and there are long stretches of plain blue between them, so the rug reads as a color first and a pattern second.

02Where it sits in the house

Blue on a floor cools a room the way a pale wall cannot, and this one is soft rather than saturated, which keeps it away from the nursery end of the register. The Tencel® content gives it a faint sheen that moves with the light and stops the blue going flat and papery in the middle of the day. It is woven at Oushak, in workshops staffed largely by women, on looms where the structure is laid mechanically and the rest is hand work.

03From the hand of the weaver

The fringes are knotted and tied by hand at the end, one at a time, and that is where each piece stops being identical to the next. Nothing in it is wool. This is the honest middle of the range: the look of a hand-woven rug carried by a loom-woven construction, and the house names which of the two it is rather than blurring the line. Loom-woven at Oushak, Türkiye, largely by women weavers. Tencel® yarns, giving a soft, faintly lustrous face. Sparse Scandinavian geometry scattered over a soft mid-blue ground. Fringes knotted and tied by hand, so no two pieces finish the same. Three sizes: 90 × 150 cm, 130 × 190 cm and 170 × 240 cm. Not hand-knotted, and not sold as such. Professional washing. Put it in a room that is nearly finished and needs one cool thing on the floor to stop the wood taking over.
