02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool surface

On the surface: Wool, Cotton. The kind of yarn sets the hand of the rug, its shine and what its care asks, all together.

02

Traditional pattern

Traditional, Tribal pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is burgundy, red.

03

Afghanistan weave

This rug is woven in Afghanistan and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.

Burgundy Afghan-Pattern Hand-Knotted Wool Rug, Khamyap Series — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Turkmen weavers in Afghanistan make the Khamyap rugs, and this is one of them: burgundy and navy wool, hand-knotted, 195 × 298 cm (6'5" × 9'9"), with a pile that is entirely wool over a cotton foundation.

01Where the Border comes from

The drawing comes out of Bukhara and Herat, and it was tied from memory rather than from a cartoon. Because the motifs are carried in the weaver's head, no two Khamyap rugs repeat exactly — a figure sits a knot or two off from its neighbor, a border wanders by a few millimeters over three meters, and those small departures are how a piece of this kind is told apart from a printed one.

02The tone of the ground

Burgundy and navy do the work between them, and the pairing is old enough in Turkmen weaving to be read as a signature. Against gray, silver, white or natural timber the burgundy warms a room without going heavy. The house is candid about where this series sits.

03The mark of slow weaving

In weaving quality Khamyap comes after Hoca Roşnai and Bilicik, and it is offered as the more reachable of the three rather than the finest of them. The pile is all wool; the foundation is cotton with five to ten percent recycled synthetic yarn added for strength, which is stated rather than hidden behind a claim of purity. That combination is exactly what keeps a rug of this size both durable and within reach. Hand-knotted by Turkmen and Afghan weavers in Afghanistan. An all-wool pile, over a cotton foundation carrying 5–10% recycled synthetic yarn. 195 × 298 cm (6'5" × 9'9") — a living room or a large sitting area. Burgundy and navy, in motifs drawn from Bukhara and Herat. Woven from memory, so every piece differs slightly from every other. Khamyap ranks below Hoca Roşnai and Bilicik for weave quality, and the house says so. Sits well with gray, silver, white and natural wood. A single rug.

04Coming off the loom

Professional washing. What is a Khamyap rug? Khamyap is a series of rugs hand-knotted by Turkmen and Afghan weavers in Afghanistan, using classical motifs from Bukhara and Herat. Underneath, the foundation is cotton, with five to ten percent recycled synthetic yarn added to strengthen it. How does Khamyap compare with Hoca Roşnai and Bilicik? In weave quality Khamyap comes after both of them.

05What it sits well with

Halıcızade states this openly rather than flattening the three into one class: Khamyap is the most accessible of the family, and it holds its own on durability and on the look of the finished rug. It is the Turkmen tradition at a weight an ordinary room can carry, and the house is straightforward about the trade that makes that possible.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.
