02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Natural surface

On the surface: Natural, Wool. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.

02

Authentic pattern

Authentic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is purple, colorful in the ground.

03

Türkiye weaving tradition

This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.

Purple Barak Handwoven Wool Kilim, Anatolian Pattern — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

This Barak-pattern kilim runs purple where most of its siblings run red — wool wefts over a cotton warp, handwoven in Türkiye, 140 × 215 cm (4'7" × 7'1"), with the Anatolian motif families set out in the Barak arrangement.

01The mark of slow weaving

It was kept folded in a chest between uses instead of left down, and there is one of it. Purple is the awkward color in village weaving. It has no single reliable plant source in Anatolia the way red has madder and blue has indigo, so it tends to be built — overdyed, layered, arrived at rather than mixed — and no two weavers arrive at the same one. The consequence is visible along the length here: the purple is not one flat tone but a range of closely related ones, shifting where a new batch of yarn came onto the loom.

02How it feels underfoot

That variation has a name in the trade, abrash, and on a piece like this it is the evidence that the dye was done in small lots by hand. Cotton warp, wool weft. The cotton keeps the rectangle honest and gives the selvedges something firm to close against, and the wool takes every color.

03What it sits well with

Three square meters is a bedside, a study, a small sitting area, and at this weight the piece can be lifted and shaken out by one person, which is most of its practical maintenance. The rest is professional: a specialist kilim wash, occasionally, and nothing improvised in between.

04At the loom in in Anatolia

Purple is also the dye that will show sun damage first, so keep it off the strip of floor that gets direct afternoon light. Handwoven in Türkiye, wool wefts on a cotton warp. Barak arrangement of Anatolian motifs, carried in purple rather than the usual red. 140 × 215 cm (4'7" × 7'1"), about three square meters. Abrash: the purple shifts tone along the length where the dye lot changed. A dowry-chest piece — age without heavy floor wear. Purple fades first under direct sun; keep it out of an afternoon light path. Occasional specialist washing, and shaking out between times. One of one. Every purple in a village weaving was somebody's private recipe, and none of them were written down.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?
