The surface uses Natural, Wool, Silk. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.
Classic pattern. The motif is built while the rug is woven; there is no layer printed on afterward. There is beige, brown in the ground.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. Where a rug is from is read in its knot and its yarn more than in its pattern; that is why the place on the spec sheet matters.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Once a week with a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile, is enough for everyday care.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Erzurum, in the high east of Anatolia, is where the wool for this rug was shorn — the first shearing, the one that comes off with the most lanolin in it. Cream Oushak-Pattern Handwoven Silk and Wool Rug, Ottoman Series: historic Oushak motifs redrawn on a contemporary field in cream, beige and gold, with pure silk worked into the pattern. One piece. A first-shearing fleece is finer and glossier than anything that follows it, and it is why this pile already has a soft light on it before any silk is added.
The Oushak drawing has been opened out and simplified — the motifs still come from the old weaving of western Anatolia, but the spacing is modern, so the rug never reads as a reproduction of anything. Cream and beige hold the field; gold appears at the joins; the brown in the palette anchors the whole thing against wood. Has Halı wove it, and the technique is the traditional Turkish double knot, tied symmetrically across two warp threads.
Silk is confined to the patterned areas, where it does two things at once — it takes color deeper than wool can, and it changes brightness as you walk past. This is not a rug for a dining table: silk in the drawing with food above it is a combination nobody wins.
Silk is cleaned by people who know silk, and by nobody else. Woven by Has Halı in Türkiye, with the traditional Turkish double knot. First-shearing greasy fleece from Erzurum, with pure silk in the patterned areas. Oushak motifs, redrawn at contemporary spacing. Cream, beige and gold, with brown holding the palette down. The silk shifts in brightness as you cross the room. Better kept away from a dining table. Specialist cleaning.
A single piece. Wool of this grade stopped being ordinary a long time ago, and a rug made from it outlasts the room it was bought for.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
