The story of this rug

Only the motifs are silk. Everything holding them is wool, and that division is the reason this rug can be walked on at all: a handwoven piece from the Versace series with a central medallion and a wide frame drawn in pure silk over a wool ground, in cream, brown and copper.

01A line from the archive

Made in small numbers for Halıcızade. The medallion is the fixed point and the border answers it, with the space between filled by ornament fine enough that most looms would not attempt it at this scale.

02How it feels underfoot

Silk carries the drawing because silk holds a thinner line than wool can — a wool motif of the same width would blur at the edges. Cream keeps the field open, copper warms it, and the brown outlines everything so the pattern stays readable from standing height.

03From the hand of the weaver

At close range the silk shows its own color shift, brighter along one axis than the other. Work of this fineness in a floor textile is rare, and the house is honest about why it exists in small numbers: it is slow to weave and there is a limit to how many a workshop will take on. The consequence for an owner is straightforward.

04The Wool on the surface

Silk motifs mark faster than the wool ground; they do not take home cleaning products, and they want a pad and a low-traffic room. Specialist washing, and nothing else. Woven by hand for Halıcızade, in small numbers. Pure silk through the motifs; wool through the ground that carries them. A central medallion with a wide framing border, in cream, brown and copper. Silk holds a finer line than wool — that is why the drawing stays sharp. Suited to a salon, a wide entrance or a dining room rather than a corridor. Pairs with bronze and gilt accents and with carved classical furniture. Silk marks faster than wool and rejects home cleaners; specialist washing only. Made in very small numbers, and this is one of them. Rugs with a medallion end up governing the furniture around them, and the furniture stops moving after about a year.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
