On the surface: Natural, Wool. The kind of yarn sets the hand of the rug, its shine and what its care asks, all together.
Classic pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is cream.
This rug is woven in India and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Density is the reason the drawing on this one holds its edges. It is among the most closely woven rugs in its class, which is what lets Oushak motifs of this fineness stay legible instead of stepping.
Handwoven in India, 171 × 256 cm (5'7" × 8'5"), cream ground, light gold borders, brown and beige through the field, in wool, cotton and bamboo viscose. Gold in the border is what balances it.
Without that line the brown and beige on cream would be a study in neutrals; with it there is a warm edge running the perimeter that pulls the whole thing toward evening light. The bamboo viscose in the motifs picks the same warmth up, so border and pattern shine together while the ground stays matte between them. Wool for durability, cotton for a foundation that holds tension, bamboo viscose for the silky finish in the drawing — that division is standard in this class of Indian weaving, and it is why a rug like this can be soft and hard-wearing at once.
Everything is knotted by hand, tens of thousands of times over, across months. It answers walnut and other solid dark woods, and it will look thin beside painted furniture. Have it washed by a rug cleaner rather than run over with a domestic machine. Handwoven in India; among the densest weaves in its class. A wool pile and a cotton foundation, with bamboo viscose reserved for the drawing. Cream ground with brown and beige, and light gold running the borders. The gold border is what keeps the neutrals from going cold. 171 × 256 cm (5'7" × 8'5") — living room, bedroom, or a wide entrance. Months of knotting; tens of thousands of knots. Professional washing; light care between times. One piece. Fine drawing is the first thing to go when a rug is woven loosely, and the last thing to go when it is not.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
