The story of this rug

Patchwork, and every panel a different weaving: a hand-knotted wool rug from the Anadolu Şal series, 209 × 298 cm (6'10" × 9'9"), made in Anatolia by joining unlike motifs and unlike colors into one field. First-grade wool throughout, knotted by women weavers over a span of months. Only this arrangement exists. Read it panel by panel and it stops being busy.

01Reading the motif

One block carries a small repeating figure in red; the next drops to indigo with a different rhythm entirely; a third goes green and changes scale again. The joins are not disguised. What holds the whole thing together is that all the panels come out of the same regional vocabulary — Anatolian weaving has been recombining its own motifs for as long as anyone has recorded it, and a patchwork rug is that habit made literal.

02First contact

Colors across the field are strong but not raw; first-grade wool takes dye with a low sheen that keeps even the reds from shouting. The wool is the first grade, which is what gives the surface its softness and its light — a matt gleam rather than a shine.

03The geography of the weave

Women weavers in Anatolia worked it, over months, and the series takes its name from the Anatolian shawl tradition it borrows its color sense from. Anadolu Şal stays in Turkish because it names a specific thing and translating it would leave nothing behind.

04The origin of the pattern

Being multicolored, it does not sit quietly next to another patterned rug. Professional washing only. Hand-knotted in Anatolia in first-grade wool. Patchwork construction: unlike motifs and colors joined into one field. Woven by women weavers over a period of months. 209 × 298 cm (6'10" × 9'9") — a full living room floor. Matt-surfaced wool; the colors stay saturated without going glossy. Best against plain walls and plain wood; it will fight another pattern. Professional washing. Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
