The story of this rug

Hereke, Bünyan, Ladik, Isparta: four Anatolian weaving towns, each with drawing of its own, and all four are on this rug. Anadolu Şal Series Multicolor Patchwork Handwoven Wool Rug, 242 × 295 cm (7'11" × 9'8"), woven by hand in Anatolia in green, orange, burgundy and purple. The patches do not match and were never meant to.

01After the color

Green sits next to orange, burgundy next to purple, and the join between one traditional pattern and the next is left visible rather than smoothed over — a rug assembled out of a country's pattern memory instead of a single workshop's.

02What it sits well with

Laid in a plain room it changes the room entirely. Laid in one that already carries color, it will need everything else to give way to it. These are woven by women in Anatolia, and one of this area runs to months of work.

03The Wool on the surface

The yarn is first-grade wool close to textile grade, which is why the pile is soft and has a shine that came with the fleece rather than out of a finishing bath. Fewer people weave this way every year — a condition of the trade, and not an argument for hurrying.

04The tone of the ground

It should go to a wash house, not into a machine. Woven entirely by hand in Anatolia, by women, over a period of months. Yarn of first-grade wool, close to textile grade. 242 × 295 cm (7'11" × 9'8") — a large sitting room or a dining floor. Motifs drawn from Hereke, Bünyan, Ladik and Isparta. Green, orange, burgundy and purple, patched rather than blended. The shine in the wool is the fleece's own, not a finish. Best against plain walls and simple furniture. One rug.

05How it is protected

Professional washing. Four towns that never wove together are on one floor here, and it is the disagreements between them that make it worth looking at.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
