02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Silk yarn

The surface uses Silk, Natural. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.

02

Classic pattern

Classic pattern. The motif is not printed on the surface; it is built as the rug is woven. The ground is burgundy, red.

03

China weave

This rug is woven in China and carries the weaving tradition of that region. The place of production is stated openly on the spec sheet.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Blot a spill with a dry cloth instead of rubbing it; rubbing spreads the stain and mats the pile.

Burgundy Classic Hand-Knotted Silk Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

The story of this rug

Sixty-four knots in every square centimeter — eight across, eight down — and eight to fourteen months of weaving to reach it. Burgundy Classic Hand-Knotted Silk Rug: 100% pure silk, knotted in China, 207 × 309 cm (6'9" × 10'2"), a burgundy field carrying gold figures drawn after Oushak motifs, with green and beige showing through. At that density the drawing can do things wool cannot.

01The tone of the ground

Stems cross without thickening, the gold outlines hold their width around a curve, and the small green and beige passages read as separate colors rather than as noise. Burgundy is the thing that will sell this rug or stop it: under daylight it is a clear red-brown; under a warm bulb it deepens almost to black at the edges of the field and the gold lifts off it.

02From ground to pile

This is a rug that changes character at six in the evening. Pure silk rugs of this size are made in smaller and smaller numbers, in Türkiye and everywhere else, and finding one at all is now the hard part.

03Coming off the loom

Every knot in this one is silk. It has the failings of silk as well: it needs a specialist washer and it will not forgive a cat. Set it under carved walnut or gilded furniture and it does the expected thing; set it in a room with Scandinavian furniture and a bare wall and it does something better. 100% pure silk, hand-knotted in China. Sixty-four knots per square centimeter — an 8 × 8 knot spacing. Eight to fourteen months of weaving. 207 × 309 cm (6'9" × 10'2"). Burgundy ground with gold figures after Oushak motifs, and green and beige passages. The color deepens sharply under warm light. Not for a household with cats; cleaning by a silk specialist. How many knots does this rug have per square centimeter? Sixty-four.

04From the hand of the weaver

The weave is set at eight knots across and eight down in each centimeter, which is what lets a gold outline keep an even width around a curve and lets small passages of green and beige register as colors rather than as flecks. Why are pure silk rugs harder to find than they were? Fewer looms are set for silk each year, and a single piece of this size takes eight to fourteen months of weaving. Silk is also the most expensive fiber in textiles, so the number of workshops still weaving an all-silk pile keeps falling. Silk is the one fiber that keeps its light after the fashion that bought it has gone, and this one has a great deal of light in it.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
