02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Wool yarn

The surface uses Wool, Natural. How a rug will feel is set first by the yarn, not by the pattern.

02

Authentic motif

Authentic pattern. Because the pattern comes from inside the weave, it can be followed from the back as well. Built on a red ground.

03

Türkiye loom

This rug is woven in Türkiye. It comes straight from the workshop with no reseller layer; the place on the spec sheet and the place it was woven are the same.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. A pad laid underneath holds the rug in place and stops it rubbing against the floor; besides preventing sliding it also extends its life.

Red Anatolian Hand-Knotted Wool Adana Yörük Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

05

The story of this rug

Adana sits on the Çukurova plain in southern Türkiye, and the Yörük — the tent-dwelling herders of Anatolia — wove on horizontal looms that could be rolled up and carried. This is one of their rugs: hand-knotted in wool, red-ground, drawn in the angular Anatolian manner, 138 × 235 cm (4'6" × 7'9"), and old enough that Halıcızade files it with the rare pieces. Red is the ground, and village reds are rarely one flat tone.

01What the yarn is

Yarn dyed in small lots takes color a little differently from batch to batch, and the horizontal bands of shifting shade this produces have a name in the trade: abrash. The drawing over it is angular rather than curved, because a pattern counted out in knotted rows cannot make a smooth arc.

02The mark of slow weaving

Every figure is a shape a weaver could carry in memory and set down again a hundred rows later. Wool, knotted by hand, made in Türkiye. Old is what the house says, and old is all anyone can honestly say — in the trade, antique starts at a hundred years, semi-antique covers fifty up to a hundred, and vintage runs from twenty to eighty, with nobody anywhere issuing a certificate for any of it.

03How it feels underfoot

What can be seen is the wear: a rug that has been walked on has a pile that lies down and a sheen new wool does not have. It is listed among the rare pieces because there is one of it, because it is not being made again, and because Yörük weaving of this kind has been leaving Anatolia for two generations.

04Which tone on the ground

Professional washing, and nothing improvised. Hand-knotted in wool on the Çukurova plain around Adana, in southern Türkiye. Red ground with angular Anatolian figures, drawn in the Yörük manner. 138 × 235 cm (4'6" × 7'9"). Listed by the house as old and as one of its rare pieces; no date is claimed. Trade age words — antique, semi-antique, vintage — have no issuing authority behind them. Abrash, the shift of tone between dye lots, is the mark of hand-dyed village wool. Professional washing only. A single rug, with nothing else like it in the catalog. One life on a southern floor is already behind it, and a second will not finish it off either.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
