The story of this rug

Turquoise is the ground here, which is the unusual part, because Anatolian village kilims reach for red far more often: a handwoven wool kilim, 90 × 118 cm (2'11" × 3'10"), flatwoven in Türkiye, with stepped figures worked across a turquoise field. Against a cool ground the geometry behaves differently.

01Up close to the pattern

Red pushes a motif forward; turquoise sits back, so the figures read as drawn on the surface rather than lifted off it, and the piece stays quiet in a room that already has plenty going on. The drawing itself is the ordinary Anatolian vocabulary of steps, hooks and one repeated small figure in the border, carried without a cartoon, which is why no two rows of it come out quite identical. Wool warp, wool weft, no pile, woven by hand.

At 90 × 118 cm it is a small piece, and small kilims are the ones that get used hardest and last shortest, because they end up in doorways. It makes more sense at the foot of a bed, under a low table or on a wall.

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
