Classic pattern; the motif is built from the yarn itself, not from dye. It does not rub away as the surface wears. The ground reads cream.
This rug is made in India. Writing the place of production onto the spec sheet also makes clear where the price comes from.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. Turning the rug a hundred and eighty degrees once a year spreads the load of sunlight and foot traffic evenly across the surface.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

Eighty-one centimeters wide and just under two meters long — 81 × 198 cm (2'8" × 6'6") — this is a runner, hand-knotted in India, with a framed cream field in beige and mink lifted by gold and a pale green.
Wool on the surface, viscose through the motifs, cotton underneath. A single piece. A runner has one problem to solve, which is that it is looked at from one end. This one is drawn to be read that way: the frame runs the length, and the flower motifs inside it repeat at a rhythm that carries the eye down a corridor rather than stopping it.
Mink and gold are the two tones doing most of the work — enough color to keep a narrow rug from looking like a strip of nothing, not so much that a hallway becomes an event. The knotting is very close, which matters more in a runner than in a room rug, because a corridor concentrates the same traffic into a fraction of the area.
Viscose is used only in the motifs and gives them a silky finish against the matte wool ground; the cotton foundation is what keeps a long narrow rug from wandering out of true. The Oushak flower drawing has been modernized rather than reproduced.
It will need professional washing, and sooner than a rug in a bedroom would. Hand-knotted in India; wool surface, viscose motifs, cotton foundation. 81 × 198 cm (2'8" × 6'6") — a corridor, a galley kitchen, or the foot of a bed. Cream, beige and mink with gold and pale green in the pattern. A frame runs the full length, with the flower motifs repeating inside it. Very dense knotting, which a corridor's concentrated traffic makes necessary. Modernized Oushak flower drawing rather than a reproduction. Professional washing, more often than a room rug needs it. One piece. Corridors are where rugs wear out, and this one was built with that in mind.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
