02Highlights

Four things that set this rug apart

01

Silk surface

On the surface: Silk, Natural. The shine of the rug, its weight and what its care asks all follow from that choice.

02

Classic pattern

Classic pattern. The motif is built row by row as the weaving advances; it is only seen whole once it comes off the loom. The ground color is cream.

03

China weave

This rug is woven in China. The place of production is written on the spec sheet; it comes straight from the workshop that wove it, with no reseller chain.

04

Professional cleaning

Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. For everyday care use a head without a beater bar and follow the direction of the pile; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Cream Hereke-Pattern Hand-Knotted Pure Silk Rug — product specifications

The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

05

The story of this rug

Silk right through the build, from the warp up to the surface: a cream hand-knotted pure silk rug of 94 × 154 cm (3'1" × 5'1"), woven in China, its field drawn after the Hereke nine-flower design, Yedi Dağın Çiçeği, and its borders weighted in burgundy.

01From ground to pile

One piece. Silk holds detail that wool cannot, and this field uses all of it: flower heads about the size of a thumbnail, each with its own leaves and its own outline, repeated across a cream ground that stays pale because nothing heavy is put on it.

02After the color

Burgundy is kept for the borders, where it frames the field and stops the cream from floating. Light is the variable. Held at one angle the rug is nearly white; turned through ninety degrees it darkens two tones and the flowers go silver. Chinese silk weaving has a long history of its own, and this is a Hereke design executed in it.

03How many centimeters, which room

At 94 × 154 cm the piece is small enough to be used somewhere other than the floor, and often is: over a table, on a wall, in a small entrance. It is delicate by construction, since silk cuts and crushes where wool would spring back, so keep it off the busiest routes, out of long direct sun and away from claws.

04Color, by the light

Cleaning belongs with a silk specialist rather than a general rug washer. Hand-knotted in China, with silk running from the warp up through the surface. 94 × 154 cm (3'1" × 5'1") — a small floor piece, a wall piece, or a table cover. Cream ground with fine Hereke floral drawing and burgundy borders. The surface changes tone with the viewing angle, as silk does and wool does not. Suits walnut and maple, and sharpens against brass and metal detailing. Delicate: keep it off high-traffic routes and out of direct sun. Cleaning goes to someone who works on silk, and to nobody else. A single piece, and often bought as a gift. Why does a silk rug change color as you walk around it? Silk filament is smooth and reflects light along its length, so the pile reads bright from one direction and dark from the other.

05What the yarn is

Turning the rug, or simply crossing the room, moves the whole surface between pale cream and a deeper shade. Where is a silk rug of this size normally used? Pieces of this scale are put on walls, laid over tables and set in small entrances at least as often as they are used underfoot. If it goes on a wall, support the weight along a sewn sleeve rather than at a few clipped points. Small silk rugs get handed on rather than worn out, which is the practical reason they end up as gifts.

07

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490

08

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

09

Frequently asked

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?
