The story of this rug

Three meters is a commitment. This is a Yağcıbedir runner of 84 × 300 cm (2'9" × 9'10"), hand-knotted in wool over a wool foundation, navy underneath with red geometric figures across it and white and cream cutting them apart — and a runner this long only works in a hall that is genuinely that long.

01From the hand of the weaver

One piece. Yağcıbedir drawing comes down from the Yörük Türkmen weaving of the Taurus range and has been handed on without alteration for centuries: hard-edged geometry, symbolic figures, a vocabulary narrow enough that a rug person recognizes it across a room.

02Color, by the light

The navy is deep and heavily saturated rather than bright. Red sits on top of it as the only warm color, and the white and cream appear in small quantities, where the drawing needs a break in the dark.

03What the yarn is

In a corridor the length does the work — the pattern repeats and the eye moves along it. Wool over wool, with no cotton and no synthetic anywhere in the build, which is the old construction and the reason this rug feels firmer underfoot than one made on a cotton base.

04The mark of slow weaving

Quality in a Yağcıbedir is decided by two things and no others: how tightly it is knotted and what the yarn was. Production of them in Türkiye has fallen off sharply in recent years. Everyday care is a vacuum, and the rest is a professional's job. At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
