Blue Hand-Knotted Wool Kula Rug, Anatolian Pattern

Kula is a town in Manisa province in western Anatolia, on the volcanic plateau east of İzmir, and it has given its name to a knotted rug type for centuries. 01Which tone on the ground

Old, and singular. The color is the piece. A blue caught between two named blues is what happens when indigo is used at a strength the dyer judged by eye, and it behaves differently under different light: by a north window it goes cool and almost slate, and under a warm evening bulb it drops back toward navy and the pattern above it lifts.
