01How it feels underfoot

Made by hand in the Aegean, at the western edge of Anatolia, in wool and viscose. There is one. Months go into a rug like this, which is a statement about labor rather than about quality, and the labor shows in the transitions — no color arrives suddenly, and none of the greens is the same green twice.

02What it sits well with

The composition was built for large furniture. A heavy carved table or a wide sofa looks larger standing on it, and a room decorated in white, cream, pale yellow and faded brown gets its warm end from the floor upward.

03The Wool on the surface

On dark parquet the whole thing sharpens. Viscose runs the warp and the weft is wool and viscose together; both are worked entirely by hand, and the fringes come off the ends plaited like ribbon. Viscose is the fiber responsible for the shine — a plant cellulose that behaves optically like silk — and it is also why the rug is more delicate than its size suggests.

04The tone of the ground

Nothing about the care is complicated: send it to a rug washer, keep it out of the wet, and do not let a household machine near it.
