The story of this rug

The drawing on this rug is deliberately too quiet to see from across a room. A cream piece knotted by hand in silk and wool for the Hanzâde series — soft flowers over a silky cream ground, roughly 70% silk with wool for the rest, made in Türkiye, 160 × 242 cm (5'3" × 7'11"). One piece. Contrast has been held down on purpose.

01The origin of the pattern

The flowers surface where the light hits and sink back into the ground where it does not, so the rug is calm at four paces and detailed at one. It was drawn to sit in front of upholstered furniture — a Chesterfield and a wing chair, leather, or a floral weave — where a loud rug would compete and a plain one would say nothing at all. Silk at this proportion is what makes the disappearing act possible, and it is also why the piece took months at the loom.

02From ground to pile

Natural yarns throughout: silk for the cool, fluid hand and the shine, wool for the body. The fringes are knotted on one at a time at the finish, which is the visible end of a long job. Rugs at this silk content are not being made in numbers any more.

03Coming off the loom

This one wants a specialist washer and nothing rougher. Hand-knotted in Türkiye from natural yarns, Hanzâde series. Roughly 70% silk, the balance wool — a proportion rarely woven now. Low-contrast flowers on cream, visible with the light and hidden against it. Cool and fluid in the hand, closer to fabric than to a floor covering. Months of knotting, with fringes tied individually at the end. 160 × 242 cm (5'3" × 7'11") — in front of a sofa and chairs, or in a bedroom. Specialist washing; no domestic machine. One piece, with no run behind it. A room with this on the floor gets quieter, which is not the effect a hand-knotted rug is usually bought for.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.
