The glow of silk is not the shine of a synthetic: it does not bounce off the surface, it comes from inside the weave. Depth, not reflection.
Classic pattern; the motif edges sit on the order of the warp, so they come out sharp. The ground is beige, cream.
This rug is woven in Türkiye. Knowing where a rug comes from is not only a matter of curiosity: yarn, dye and weaving habits change from region to region.
Cleaning method: Professional cleaning. In a rug in direct sun the color opens unevenly over the years; drawing the curtain halfway or turning the rug now and then prevents that.
The nature of handwork: Every woven rug is made one at a time, so sizes and color tones can vary by up to 3%. Small irregularities where the yarns cross are not faults; they are the signature of the weave.

A handwoven wool rug from the Harem series, cream through the ground and beige in the ornament, with fifteenth-century Oushak motifs handled in a modern register. Erzurum fleece, the Anatolian double knot, and real Bursa silk of the kind that has become hard to source at all.
Woven in Türkiye by Çınar for Halıcızade. Fifteenth-century Oushak weaving is one of the reference points of the whole craft — the rugs that turn up underfoot in Renaissance paintings came out of that region — and what it contributes here is interval rather than incident.
The motifs are spaced so the eye rests between them. Cream and beige sit a half-step apart, which means the pattern is legible in daylight and almost dissolves under a low lamp. That gap between the two readings is the piece's best trick and it costs nothing to enjoy. Erzurum produces wool that is soft, bright and durable, and the workshop uses the first shearing.
The double knot is Anatolian practice; Çınar has taken prizes for its drawing at international competitions, which is a fact about the design rather than about this rug's construction, and worth separating.
Bursa silk goes into Harem pieces where a motif needs to lift. A pale rug in a pale room asks something of you in return: it wants shoes off, and it wants a professional wash rather than a bucket. Woven by hand in Türkiye at the Çınar workshop. Erzurum first-shearing wool, on the Anatolian double knot. Ornament drawn from fifteenth-century Oushak motifs. Cream ground with beige ornament — a half-step apart, so the pattern shifts with the light. Real Bursa silk, now genuinely scarce, appears in the Harem series. Pale ground: it asks for shoes off and rewards it. Cleaning by a professional, and rarely. One rug only. Rugs like this are usually bought for a living room and end up in a bedroom, where the low light suits them better.
The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:
At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.
Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380
It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.
Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340
Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.
Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340
Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.
Recommended: 80×290 · 90×390 · 90×490
Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.
Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.
Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.
At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.
