The lyocell fiber is straight and smooth and breaks light by direction, the way silk does. The same rug reads in two colors from two sides.

The story of this rug

The ground is cream and open, and a cream floor keeps a record of the room it lives in — worth saying before anything else. Cream Butterfly Loom-Woven Tencel® and Wool Rug, Hatıl Series: one butterfly with gold-honey wings and thin gray veins, Tencel® and wool over cotton, 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10"), woven in Anatolia.

01A line from the archive

A single piece. What is on it is one figure and a great deal of nothing. The butterfly has been placed as though it settled a second ago; the wings are lit, and the veining is drawn in a gray fine enough that it has to be looked for.

02Where it sits in the house

Freedom and change are what the house means by it, and putting that in a room where a person is still small is a more serious proposition than a row of cartoon animals. Under a pale window the Tencel® in the pile catches light and the cream lifts; away from the window the same cream goes flat and quiet. Tencel® is lyocell, made from wood pulp, and it is why the surface feels cool and faintly silky instead of woolly.

03What Wool does

Wool is worked in beside it for warmth and body, and the foundation underneath is cotton. The looms stand in Anatolia and the weavers are women; machinery builds the structure and a person finishes the ends.

04Color, by the light

Hatıl is the word for the timber beam buried inside an Anatolian stone wall — never seen, never decorated, and the reason the house stays up. The series took its name from that. Send it out to be washed. Loom-woven in Anatolia; machine structure, hand-finished. Tencel® and wool in the pile, cotton in the foundation. One butterfly in gold and honey with fine gray veining, on cream. Low pile with a slight sheen, cool underfoot. Hatıl: the buried beam that keeps an Anatolian stone wall upright. 170 × 240 cm (5'7" × 7'10"). A pale ground; a house where shoes come off suits it. Send it out to be washed. One figure on an empty floor asks more of a room than a full pattern does, and gives more back.

Which size fits your room?

The most common mistake in choosing a rug is buying too small. Here are the numbers, room by room:

Living room

At least the front legs of the sofas should sit on the rug. Leave 20–40 cm of floor showing around it.

Recommended: 200×290 · 240×340 · 300×380

Dining room

It should extend 60–75 cm beyond every edge of the table, so chairs do not catch when pulled back.

Recommended: 200×290 · 250×250 · 240×340

Bedroom

Either cover the lower two-thirds of the bed, or choose a size that extends 60–90 cm on three sides.

Recommended: 170×240 · 200×290 · 240×340

Hallway · runner

Choose one 25–30 cm shorter than the hallway, leaving 10–15 cm of floor on each side.

Care — three rules

Vacuum regularly

Use a head without a beater bar, in the direction of the pile. Once a week is enough; dust is lifted before it settles between the yarns.

Treat spills before they dry

Blot, do not rub. Dampen with a suitable cleaner and dry.

Leave washing to a professional

Household machines are not suitable for woven rugs. One professional wash a year is recommended.

Which size should I choose for a living room?

At least the front legs of your sofas should sit on the rug. For a standard living room 200 × 290 cm is recommended; for wide rooms 240 × 340 cm or 300 × 380 cm. The scale plan on this page shows how much of a 520 × 420 cm room each size covers.

How long does shipping take, and what does it cost?

For international orders, shipping, duties and taxes are calculated at checkout and paid in advance; there is no cash on delivery. Rugs in stock leave Ankara within 1–3 business days.

Can I return it if I do not like it?

Yes. You can return it within 14 days of delivery, no questions asked. On international orders return shipping is paid by the buyer.

Will the color match what I see on screen?

Small differences in tone are possible depending on your screen. Open the images full screen to study the surface, and watch the review video where there is one. If you want to be sure, you can see the rug in person at our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara.

Can the rug be used over underfloor heating?

It depends on the pile height. Low-pile woven rugs work with underfloor heating and do not block the heat. If you are unsure, send the product code to Client Services on WhatsApp.

How does the price change between sizes?

Pricing is by the square meter. The price per square meter is shown next to the price, and it updates as you select a size.

Can I see the rug in Ankara?

Yes. At our showroom in Çankaya, Ankara you can see the rugs in this series and touch the weave. No appointment is needed.

Can I ask for a size that is not listed?

Custom sizes can be woven in many series. Send your measurements on WhatsApp and we will come back with a production time and a price.
